BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription drug that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. It contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is produced by the microbe that causes botulism. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it is used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. In addition to its cosmetic applications, it is used to treat a number of medical problems, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines.
Although originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of eye and muscle spasms, BOTOX Cosmetic was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value. Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to treat the following:
Will they come back?
Answer: Yes, Botox lasts 3-4 months on average. Lines are caused by the muscle movement under the skin. Neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin can help reduce that muscle movement temporarily. At this time, there is no permanent treatment.
How much do I need?
Answer: Botox/Dysport is a completely customized treatment and thus, requires a consultation in person to evaluate you facial muscle strength. On average, frown lines (“glabella”) requires anywhere from 15 to 25 units.
Filler is for volume loss, and is commonly injected into the cheeks, lips, and smile lines to replace volume loss that occurs with aging around 30 years of age. Smile lines can be injected with fillers to plump up the line in order to give a more youthful appearance.
How much do fillers cost?
Answer: Fillers last about one year depending on the type selected. Usually, one syringe (1 mL=1/5 tsp) is used, then more can be added if needed in a few weeks after the area has settled.
Is this a permanent solution?
Answer: No, not at this time for injectables. A facelift is a more invasive treatment that lasts longer, but is still not “permanent.”

“Wonderful experience. Dr. Goldman is clearly very experienced and a wealth of knowledge. He spent a lot of time going over my concerns, more than most doctors offer. I felt at ease knowing he has been in the “business” for a long time and is very knowledgeable. Plus— he didn’t push any products on me. You can tell he runs the practice with integrity. 100% recommend.” - Kali-Ray S.
“Goldman Dermatology is conveniently located just outside of World Trade Center and is a clean, organized and friendly office! I had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Helen Radoszycski, and she was very thorough, attentive, professional, and helpful. “Dr. Goldman's office is top notch. Beginning with the ease of scheduling, to being seen at the time the appointment was scheduled, to a very friendly and efficient front staff to skilled nursing help, the visit with Dr. Goldman was first rate.
