BOTOX® In Manhattan, NYC

Offering full service dermatology with convenience to fit the busy schedules of New Yorkers

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription drug that, when injected, temporarily paralyzes muscles. It contains a purified and safe form of botulinum toxin A, which is produced by the microbe that causes botulism. Manufactured by Allergan, Inc., it is used to treat permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin that are formed by the continual contraction of facial muscles. In addition to its cosmetic applications, it is used to treat a number of medical problems, including excessive sweating, overactive bladder, neck spasms, crossed eyes, chronic back and jaw pain, and migraines.

Applications For BOTOX® Cosmetic

Although originally approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of eye and muscle spasms, BOTOX Cosmetic was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value. Properly placed injections of BOTOX Cosmetic block nerve impulses sent to muscles, weakening them to the point where they cannot contract, and temporarily eliminating moderately severe furrows and lines. BOTOX Cosmetic is used to treat the following:

  • Forehead furrows
  • Frown lines
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) of axilla, palms, soles and forehead
  • Crow’s feet
  • Skin bands on the neck
  • BOTOX® Cosmetic Procedure And Results
  • Using a very fine needle, BOTOX Cosmetic is injected directly into facial muscles that are causing furrows and lines. Receiving the injections requires no anesthetic, but some doctors choose to numb the area to be injected with ice packs or a topical anesthetic cream. Results can usually be seen within a few days of treatment, and typically last up to four months, although areas that are treated on a regular basis may retain results longer. Injections should be given only by qualified medical professionals.

Botox For Frown Lines

Will they come back?

Answer: Yes, Botox lasts 3-4 months on average. Lines are caused by the muscle movement under the skin. Neurotoxins such as Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin can help reduce that muscle movement temporarily. At this time, there is no permanent treatment.

How much do I need?

Answer: Botox/Dysport is a completely customized treatment and thus, requires a consultation in person to evaluate you facial muscle strength. On average, frown lines (“glabella”) requires anywhere from 15 to 25 units.

Botox For Laugh Lines

Filler is for volume loss, and is commonly injected into the cheeks, lips, and smile lines to replace volume loss that occurs with aging around 30 years of age. Smile lines can be injected with fillers to plump up the line in order to give a more youthful appearance.

How much do fillers cost?

Answer: Fillers last about one year depending on the type selected. Usually, one syringe (1 mL=1/5 tsp) is used, then more can be added if needed in a few weeks after the area has settled.

Is this a permanent solution?

Answer: No, not at this time for injectables. A facelift is a more invasive treatment that lasts longer, but is still not “permanent.”
